Prokol’s wide product range also includes a large number of polyurethane-based products. These products include various coatings and hotsprays suitable for a wide variety of applications. During the development of these PU products, a reaction takes place between diisocyanates and polyols. With regard to these diisocyanates, a limitation on the processing of PU products was published in 2020.
Prokol stresses the importance of working safely with PU products. It has been known for several years that diisocyanates can cause respiratory sensitisation after skin contact. This can result in an (allergic) reaction or, in extreme cases, (temporary) respiratory problems. To prevent this, a restriction was added on 4 August 2020 (by REACH) regarding diisocyanates and this results in significant change. From 24 August 2023, all professional and industrial users of PU products are obliged to be trained and certified. This can be done through an online (self-study) training course including an exam.
